Located in Gitega, the capital city, Gishora sits proudly atop a hill chosen for its strategic position by King Gisabo.
The main site is Gishora, and the drum sanctuary. The drums have played a significant role throughout the life history of Burundi; they were often made for, and played at, important events such as royal ceremonies.
The sanctuary is a unique way to experience Burundi culture as well as the architecture of a traditional royal palace. Burundi drums are on the UNESCO WHS list.
