Located in the Northern part of Burundi, Kirundo Province which borders Rwanda. Lake Rwihinda nature reserve known as ‘’Lac aux Oiseaux,’’ is one of the most prominent and outstanding holiday destinations in the country.
The lake and the surroundings are a protected area that boasts some of the unique scenery when it comes to flora and fauna. The area is covered by shrubs being dominant, forests with indigenous tree species over 100 years, and wetlands. The area is ideal for fisheries, agriculture, and research on medicinal plants and traditional herbs.
The Lake is a real sanctuary for migratory aquatic birds that come to the site by the thousands to reproduce and nest on the green swamps and islets of the lake. Crested cranes and herons live here peacefully and quietly as a protected area.
