Rusizi National Park is a fascinating and breathe taking destination for wildlife enthusiasts. It is accessible from Bujumbura (20-minute drive from Bujumbura). The plains surrounding the river flood periodically, leading to hibernation of hundreds of animals to the area to replenish. Visitors can see a variety of wildlife ranging from the hippos, crocodiles, and primates.
Hippos are ever present and consider this this as their niche, a perfect place to encounter them. The park, with its clear skies, indigenous trees is a true bird-watchers paradise. The migratory birds to be sighted at the park are rare and beautiful species from Asia and Europe such as sand pipers and plovers.
