In the lush mountains of Burundi, at the bottom of the Kibimbi massif and approximately 115km Southeast of the bustling city of Bujumbura, lies the southernmost source of the Nile River. This mountain stream, known as the Source du Nil, has intrigued explorers for centuries as they sought to uncover the origins of this mighty river that winds its way through several countries before finally emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.
There are many sources of the Nile, but this mountain stream in Burundi is currently viewed as the origin of the Nile.
